Fall Prevention Success at Dudbrook House with Nobi

At Porters Care, we’re proud to highlight our recent collaboration with Alcove to supply and install the cutting edge Nobi Smart Lights system at Dudbrook House, marking a significant advancement in fall prevention, fall detection and resident safety.

Setting the Scene

Falls remain a major risk in senior living environments, particularly in dementia care. As stated in the Nobi case study at Dudbrook House: “Falls are one of the greatest risks in senior living, especially for residents living with dementia.”  Nobi Smart Lights.

In response, Dudbrook House partnered with a local County Council to equip 150 rooms with Nobi Smart Lights, thereby protecting both independence and safety.

The Challenge

Before adopting the smart lighting system, Dudbrook House was relying on reactive measures such as hourly room checks and pressure mats. While well intentioned, these methods lagged behind proactive intervention and often left staff playing catch-up.

One major concern was the “long lie”, a fall event where the resident remains on the floor for more than 30 minutes, significantly increasing mortality risk.

Our Role

As the technology integrator, Porters Care supplied Alcove with the full audit, procurement and installation of Nobi Smart Lights throughout the facility. We worked closely with Alcove’s team to ensure seamless deployment across the 150 rooms and enabled staff training on the system’s fall detection and monitoring capabilities.

Impressive Results

According to Nobi’s published data from the Dudbrook House installation:

  • Falls dropped from 8.7 to 5.1 per 1,000 resident days, a 41% reduction.
  • The average time to assist residents dropped from 12 minutes 28 seconds to just 3 minutes 47 seconds, representing a 70% faster intervention.
  • Long-lie incidents were reduced from 14.2% (approximately 1.2 per 1,000 resident-days) to zero over 10,877 resident-days of monitoring.

These outcomes clearly demonstrate how combining fall detection technology and smart ambient lighting can transform care outcomes: reducing risk, improving speed of intervention, and giving residents greater independence while reassuring families and staff.

Why Nobi Smart Lights Work for Fall Prevention

Continuous ambient monitoring:

The system learns and adapts to resident patterns, enabling proactive detection of movement anomalies.
